MAYVILLE, N.D -- The University of Providence women's basketball team dominated Mayville State University 87-66 Friday night.
The Argos (9-5) scored the first basket of the game behind a breakaway layup from junior Brooke Dial, and following a three-pointer from the Comets (1-11), baskets from seniors Camryn Cartwright and McKenna Reggear put UP in front 7-3.
The Argos slowly extended the lead out to nine behind a floater from junior Eliannah Ramirez, but the Comets ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to shorten the UP lead to 19-15 heading into the break.
Each side added a three-pointer to begin the second quarter but a triple from Ramirez and a layup from Dial gave the Argos a 29-20 edge.
Both teams traded points the rest of the half with a layup from Ramirez putting UP ahead 39-31 at halftime.
The Argos opened up the scoring in the second half with a 6-0 run behind a pair of layups from senior Ainsley Thurber, and following a layup from the Comets, a jumper from Reggear and a layup from Dial gave UP a 49-33 lead.
UP continued their momentum stretching the lead out to 22, and despite a pair of late baskets from the Comets, the Argos cruised to an 87-66 victory over Mayville State.
Junior Eliannah Ramirez led the way for the Argos with a career high 19 points, junior Brooke Dial added 17 points, and senior McKenna Reggear tallied 16.
The Argos will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 3 when they head to Valley City, N.D. Tip-off is scheduled from 4:00 pm. (MST) versus Valley City State.
