GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball program defeated Rocky Mountain College 100-78 Saturday night.
The Battlin' Bears (16-9) scored the first basket of the game, but the Argos (14-10) responded with a layup and free throw from senior
Nikolajs Atanasovs to put UP ahead 3-2.
The two teams would go back and forth early on but threes from senior
Antoine Boyd Jr., freshman
Quinn Swanson, and senior
Mike Wright Jr. gave UP a five-point lead midway through the first.
The Argos continued their momentum scoring nine straight to their lead to 17 with five minutes left in the half.
Rocky Mountain would try and close the gap the rest of the half, but scores coming from freshman
John Floyd, senior
Dylan Hushaw and Wright Jr. put UP ahead 49-35 heading into the break. Wright Jr. led the Argos with 10 points in the first half.
The Argos scored the first points of the second half on a layup from
Nikolajs Atanasovs to extend their lead to 16, and UP would not stop there with Wright Jr. knocking down a pair of threes to push the Argo lead out to 22.
Buckets from Boyd Jr., Swanson, and junior
Ryan Chavez extended the lead to 28 and the Battlin' Bears would not get within 20 the rest of the way as UP cruised to a 100-78 victory over Rocky Mountain College. Â
Mike Wright Jr. led all scorers with 19 points and six rebounds.
Antoine Boyd Jr. added 18 points and
Quinn Swanson and
Nikolajs Atanasovs both had 12.
The Argos will be back in action Thursday, Feb. 13 when they return home to face Carroll College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the McLaughlin Center.
