Argos Pick Up Seventh Straight Win Over Skylights

HAVRE, Mont. – The University of Providence women's volleyball program defeated MSU-Northern 3-1 Wednesday night.

In the first set the Argos (10-1) got out to an early 9-3 lead behind kills from seniors Sadie Giles and Bella Green. The Skylights (3-6) cut the lead to two, but an 11-1 run from the Argos off kills from Green and senior Franny Martins put the match away as UP took the first set 25-13.

The second set started off the same for the Argos, scoring the first six points of the set behind a pair of kills from junior Cabry Taylor. The Skylights would not go away slowly cutting into the lead tying the match at 16. Each side went back-and-forth the rest of the way but MSU-Northern scored the final two points of the set to take the second 28-26.

The Skylights turned the tables on the Argos in the third set, scoring the first five points, but the Argos responded with a 9-3 run to tie the set at nine. MSU-Northern slowly extended their lead out to four, but UP answered with a 6-2 run behind three kills from junior Martyna Fiedler to tie the set at 23. The Skylights saw a set point at 24-23, but UP scored four of the last five with a pair of kills from Giles securing the third set 27-25.

The fourth set saw the Argos get out to a 9-3 lead off a pair of kills from Fiedler, but the Skylights would not go away answering with a 7-1 run to tie the set at 10. UP would rattle off five straight behind a kill from Martins and an ace from Giles, and the Argos would maintain that edge the rest of the set with a kill from Martins securing the fourth 25-18, and the match 3-1.

Green led the way for the Argos with 15 kills and Giles added 14 kills and a team high 25 digs. Senior Bella Thompson tallied 47 assists, and junior Kyra Saiers added 24 digs.

The Argos will be back in action Friday, Sept. 12 when they host Mayville State University for the home opener. Gametime is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Great Falls, Mont.
