GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's volleyball program swept Mayville State University in the home opener Friday night.
In the first set the Argos (11-1) scored the first five points of the match behind a kill from senior
Bella Green and an ace from senior
Bella Thompson. Following three straight from the Comets (2-6), UP scored the next four off kills from senior
Sadie Giles and junior
Cabry Taylor to take a 9-3 lead. Mayville slowly cut into the lead the rest of the set tying the first at 18 and 23, and took a 25-24 lead, but the Argos rallied with a kill from senior
Ryann Eddins and a block from Giles and Eddins to secure the first set 29-27.
The second set started the same with the Argos getting out to an early 11-2 lead behind kills from Giles and Eddins. Despite a late run from the Comets the Argos scored six of the last eight points with a kill from junior
Martyna Fiedler taking the second set for UP, 25-12.
The Argos continued their momentum into the third set scoring eight of the first nine points off a kill from senior
Kiyana Faupula and an ace from junior
Kyra Saiers. UP would maintain that edge the rest of the set with kills from freshman
Brooklyn Hillman and
Trinity Tinsen securing the third set 25-9, and the match 3-0.
Green and Martins led the way for the Argos with 10 and seven kills, respectively. Senior
Bella Thompson tallied 37 assists, and junior
Kyra Saiers had a team high 16 digs. Â
The Argos will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 13 when they host Valley City State in Great Falls, Mont. Gametime is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in the McLaughlin Center. Â Â
