GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's volleyball program swept Valley City State Saturday as head coach
Arunas Duda picked up his 400
th career victory.
In the first set the Argos (12-1) earned a two-point edge early with kills from juniors
Cabry Taylor,
Martyna Fiedler, and senior
Sadie Giles. The Vikings (3-7) brought the set within one, but a 10-1 run from UP behind an ace from senior
Bella Thompson and a pair of kills from senior
Bella Green put the Argos ahead 18-7. UP cruised the rest of the set with a kill from Fiedler securing the first 25-11.
The second set was more of the same with the Argos taking a commanding 13-1 lead off kills from Fiedler and Green. UP continued their momentum the rest of the set with a kill from Giles giving the Argos the second set 25-10.
UP got out to another early lead in the third set, but a 5-0 run from the Vikings gave Valley City an 8-5 lead. The Argos slowly cut into the Viking advantage tying the set at 12 with a pair of kills from Taylor, and despite the Vikings cutting the lead to one, UP scored four of the last five behind kills from Green and Giles to secure the third set 25-21, and the match 3-0.
Green led the way for the Argos with 13 kills, senior
Bella Thompson tallied 39 assists, and Giles had a team high 15 digs. Â
The Argos will be back in action Friday, Set. 19 when they head to Bismark, N.D. for a matchup with Bismarck State College. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (MST) in the BSC Armory. Â Â Â
