GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence women's soccer
program fell to Bushnell University 2-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener Thursday afternoon.
The Argos (0-2-2) had the first opportunity of the game when a through ball from sophomore
Brooklyn Poole found junior
Shea Waters in the box, but her shot was partially blocked and went wide of the net.
Over the next 20 minutes the Beacons (2-1-2) dominated possession firing off five shots on goal until in the 27
th minute a corner kick from Lexis Canyete-Asata found Charlotte Vandercar in the box and beat the goalkeeper to put Bushnell ahead 1-0.
The Argos answered with a shot from senior
Kailey Camper, but it was saved by the Beacons defense.
Bushnell continued to threaten the rest of the half with another pair of shots on goal, but the Beacons could not find the back of the net as UP went into the break trailing by one.
The Argos came out of the second half threatening when sophomore
Kara Wiley drew a penalty in the box, but freshman
Autumn Apana-Purcell's penalty kick was saved by Ana Augusto.
Both teams went back-and-forth over the next 15 minutes until the Beacons threatened with a corner kick from Addy Morgan out wide found Lexis Canyete-Asato whose shot from way outside the box went over the outstretched hands of the Argo goalkeeper to put Bushnell ahead 2-0.
Despite late pressure from the Argos down the stretch, they were unable to get a shot on frame as UP fell to Bushnell in the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener 2-0.
The Argos will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 20 when they host Corban University. The first touch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Great Falls, Mont. Â
