Argos Fall to Dakota Wesleyan

MITCHELL, S.D. -- The University of Providence men's soccer team fell to Dakota Wesleyan 5-0 Tuesday night.

The Tigers (1-3) came out putting the pressure on the Argos maintaining possession over the first 10 minutes but were only able to get one shot on frame that was easily saved by junior goalkeeper Teddy Benbow.

Following a lightning delay both teams went back-and-forth until a bad pass back to the goalkeeper from the Argos (0-1-1) was intercepted by a Tiger attacker who scored on the empty net to put Dakota Wesleyan ahead 1-0.

Three minutes later the Tigers continued their momentum with a shot from the box that was saved by Benbow, but Dakota Wesleyan's rebound shot found the back of the net to put the Tigers ahead by two.

The Argos threatened with a corner kick in the 40th minute, but on the counter-attack Dakota Wesleyan extended their lead to three with a shot that went just past the outstretched hands of Benbow and into the back of the net.

Neither side threatened the rest of the way as UP went into the break trailing 3-0.

Twenty minutes into the second half the Argos were able to threaten with a shot on goal from sophomore Noah Watson, but it was grabbed out of the air by the Tiger goalkeeper.

Dakota Wesleyan added goals in the 67th and 72nd minute and despite late pressure from the Argos, UP fell to Dakota Wesleyan 5-0.

The Argos will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 3 when they travel to Sioux City, Iowa. First touch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (MST) versus Morningside University.
