SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The University of Providence
men's soccer team fell to Morningside University 3-0 Wednesday night.
The Broncos (1-2-1) put the pressure on early with a corner kick and a shot over the crossbar in the first two minutes, but on the counterattack the Argos (0-2-1) answered with a pair of shots from sophomore
Noah Watson and junior
Angel Nolasco, but neither were able to find the back of the net.
Both teams went back and forth over the next 15 minutes until a Broncos attacker made an Argo miss and found his teammate in front of the goalie who stabbed it past junior
Teddy Benbow's outstretched hands.
The Broncos controlled the rest of the half, managing to get three shots on goal, but neither team was able to get a great look as UP went into the break trailing by one.
The Argos had a chance early in the second half when a free kick from freshman
Musa Jallow went into the box, but it was quickly sent away by the Broncos defenders.
A few minutes later the Argos had another opportunity when sophomore
Jose Arevalo beat his defender but his shot from inside the box was saved by the Broncos goalkeeper.
Morningside added goals in the 67
th and 82
nd minute, and despite late pressure from the Argos, UP fell to Morningside University 3-0.
The Argos will be back in action Thursday, Sept. 4 when they travel to Sioux Center, Iowa. First touch is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. (MST) versus Dordt University. Â Â
