COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. -- The University of Providence women's soccer
program defeated Walla Walla University 3-1 Friday afternoon.
The Argos (2-2-2) had the first scoring opportunity of the game when in the 3
rd minute senior
Kailey Camper got a good look from inside the box, but her rolling shot was saved by the Wolves (0-3) goalkeeper.
The Argos continued to dominate possession the rest of the half rattling off another eight shots on goal including one off the crossbar from freshman
Autumn Apana-Purcell, but none were able to find the back of the net as UP went into the break tied at zero.
Both sides went back-and-forth to start the second half until the 70
th minute when the Wolves broke the tie with a goal from way outside the box that went over the outstretched hands of senior
Jennifer Alvillar.
10 minutes later the Argos found the equalizer when junior
Shea Waters cross found sophomore
Brooklyn Poole in the box and her shot found the back of the net to tie the game at one.
The Argos continued their momentum when a corner kick from sophomore
Chloe Pajaro connected with Poole in the box and she beat the goalkeeper to put UP in front 2-1.
Just under a minute later the Argos extended their lead to two when a free kick from freshman
Anisia Ramirez found Camper in the box and she chipped it past the goalkeeper to make it 3-1.
The Wolves added pressure for the final eight minutes of the contest, but the Argo defense stood strong as UP defeated Walla Walla 3-1.
The Argos will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 28 when they travel to Portland, Ore. The first touch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. (MST) versus Warner Pacific. Â Â
