Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

St. Germain's Late Goal Secures Argos Third Straight Win

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The University of Providence women's soccer program defeated Warner Pacific 1-0 Sunday afternoon.

The Knights (1-6-1) had the first opportunity of the game getting a pair of shots on goal in the first six minutes, but both were saved by senior Jennifer Alvillar.

The Argos (3-2-2) answered with a shot of their own off a corner kick, but senior Gabby McVay's shot went wide of the goal.

Both sides had a few chances the rest of the half but neither team were able to find the go-ahead goal as the Argos went into the break tied at zero.

The Knights controlled possession to begin the second half rattling off four shots on goal, but all were saved by Alvillar.

Following a shot on frame from sophomore Brooklyn Poole the Knights had a few opportunities but were unable to get past the Argo defense.

The Argos finally broke through in the 86th minute when senior Kailey Camper's cross into the box found sophomore Holly St. Germain whose shot went off the goalkeeper's fingers and into the back of the net.

Despite late pressure from the Knights down the stretch, the Argos defense stood strong as UP defeated Warner Pacific 1-0.

The Argos will be back in action Thursday, Oct. 2 when they host Northwest University. The first touch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (MST) in Great Falls, Mont.
