GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's volleyball program picked up their sixth straight sweep with a victory over Dakota State Saturday afternoon.
In the first set the Argos (16-1) got out to an early 8-3 lead behind kills from senior
Bella Green and junior
Cabry Taylor. The Trojans (9-5) quickly answered tying the set at 11, but six straight from the Argos off kills from junior
Martyna Fiedler and Green put the Argos ahead 18-12. UP traded points the rest of the set with a kill from Taylor securing the first 25-18.
The second set was back-and-forth with neither team gaining a lead by more than two until four straight from the Argos off a kill from
Sadie Giles gave UP a 19-16 edge. Dakota State would not go away tying the set at 19 and 22, but a pair of kills from Fiedler took the second set for UP 26-24.
In the third set both teams went back-and-forth until a 4-1 run from UP behind a kill from Giles and a block from seniors
Bella Thompson and
Franny Martins gave the Argos a 9-5 advantage. The Argos continued their momentum with a 7-2 run, and despite a late flurry from the Trojans, a kill from Giles secured the third set for UP 25-22 and the match 3-0.
Fiedler and Green led the way for the Argos with 10 kills apiece, senior
Bella Thompson totaled 35 assists, and junior
Kyra Saiers added a team high 17 digs.
The Argos will be back in action Friday, Oct. 3 when they head to Butte, Mont. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. versus #19 Montana Tech.
