HELENA, Mont. – The University of Providence women's volleyball program swept Carroll College in the Frontier Conference opener Friday night.
In the first set the Argos (8-1) got out to an early 6-3 lead behind a pair of kills from junior
Martyna Fiedler and
Sadie Giles. Each side went back and forth until 10 straight from UP put the Argos in front 21-9. The Fighting Saints (6-4) did not go away putting together a late run, but a kill from Giles secured the first set for UP 25-20.
The second set saw UP get out to another early lead with three kills from senior
Ryann Eddins putting the Argos ahead 10-5. The Argos slowly extended their lead the rest of the set with a kill from freshman
Kya Stanley giving the Argos the second 25-15.
In the third set neither side could grab a lead by more than two until four straight from Carroll put the Fighting Saints ahead 16-13. The Argos answered with three straight of their own to tie the set at 16 behind kills from senior
Franny Martins and Taylor. The set then saw tieds at 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25 before the Argos scored the final two points of the set with a kill from senior
Bella Green securing the third set 27-25, and the match 3-0.
Giles and Eddins led the way with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Thompson tallied 38 assists and and junior
Kyra Saiers had a team high 28 digs.
The Argos will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 6 when they travel to Billings, Mont. for a matchup with Rocky Mountain College at 5:00 p.m. Â
