DILLON, Mont. -- The University of Providence men's basketball team fell to Montana Western 83-74 Saturday night.
The Argos (2-15) scored the first basket of the game off a layup from sophomore Quinn Swanson and following a layup from the Bulldogs (14-3), an and one from Brendan Redhead and a free throw from Swanson gave UP a 6-3 lead.
Montana Western answered with a 6-2 run to take a four-point advantage, but a pair of baskets from Swanson and junior Marcus Lawson put the Argos ahead 13-12.
The Bulldogs slowly took control of the game outscoring the Argos 14-2 over the final five minutes of the first half as UP trailed Montana Western 42-27 heading into halftime.
Montana Western pushed the lead out to 17 to begin the second half but a dunk from Lawson and a layup from senior Jakub Lloyd brought the game within 10.
The Bulldogs quickly increased their lead back out to 14, but a late 11-2 run from the Argos behind a jumper from Lawson and a layup from Lloyd shortened the Montana Western edge to 69-67 with two minutes left.
Montana Western responded with six straight to extend the lead to eight, and despite late pressure from the Argos, UP fell to the Bulldogs 83-74.
The Argos will be back in action Friday, Jan. 16 when they host Rocky Mountain College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (MST) in Great Falls, Mont. Â
