VALLEY CITY, N.D -- The University of Providence women's basketball team defeated Valley City State 67-65 Saturday night.

The Argos (10-5) scored the first points of the game behind a pair of free throws from junior Brooke Dial, and following a basket from the Vikings (5-8), a 10-0 run off three-pointers from seniors McKenna Reggear and Camryn Cartwright put UP in front 12-2.

Both teams traded baskets the rest of the quarter with a layup from senior Sofia Mokofisi giving the Argos a 23-12 lead heading into the break.

The Argos continued their momentum into the second quarter pushing the lead out to 16 behind layups from Reggear and Dial, but the Vikings would slowly cut into the advantage over the next eight minutes decreasing the Argo edge to five until a three-pointer from junior Eliannah Ramirez put the Argos ahead 35-27 at halftime.

The Vikings opened the second half with a 9-1 run to tie the game at 36, but UP outscored Valley City 9-4 the rest of the quarter behind seven points from Dial to take a 45-40 lead into the fourth.

Valley City State slowly cut into the Argo lead over the first four minutes of the fourth quarter culminating in a tie at 50.

There would be ties at 53, and 55 before an 8-2 run off a jumper from Dial and a three-pointer from senior Ainsley Thurber gave the Argos a 63-57 lead with just under two minutes remaining.

The Vikings continued to answer, once again tying the game at 65, but following a missed layup from Dial with two seconds left, Reggear secured the rebound and beat the buzzer with a layup of her own to give the Argos a 67-65 victory over Valley City State.

Junior Brooke Dial led the way with 23 points, senior McKenna Reggear tallied 13, and senior Ainsley Thurber added 11.

The Argos will be back in action Friday, Jan. 9 when they head to Butte, Mont. Tip-off is scheduled from 5:00 pm. (MST) versus #14 Montana Tech.
