Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Argos Come Up Short Versus MSU-Northern

HAVRE, Mont. -- The University of Providence women's basketball team fell to MSU-Northern 84-73 Tuesday night.

The Skylights (13-6) scored the first basket of the game and following a layup from senior Ainsley Thurber, a pair of baskets pushed the MSU-Northern lead out to six.

The Argos (11-9) clawed back to bring the game within two behind a three-pointer from junior Eliannah Ramirez and a layup from senior McKenna Reggear, but the Skylights outscored the Argos 14-6 the rest of the quarter as UP trailed 27-17 heading into the break.

Both teams traded points to begin the second quarter until five straight from the Argos off a pair of baskets from Thurber cut the Skylight lead to five.

Each side went back-and-forth the rest of the quarter until the Skylights scored the final six points of the half to take a 46-31 lead into halftime.

The Skylights pushed their advantage out to 20 to begin the third quarter but over the next five minutes the Argos slowly cut into the lead with layups from freshman Layne Rogel and Ramirez to make it 61-51.

MSU-Northern quickly extended the lead back to 20, and despite a late 9-0 run from the Argos, UP could not complete the comeback falling to the Skylights 84-73.

Junior Eliannah Ramirez led the way for the Argos with 22 points and senior Ainsley Thurber and freshman Layne Rogel added 19 and 15, respectively.

The Argos will be back in action Thursday, Jan. 29 when they head to Dickinson, ND. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (MST) vs Dickinson State.
