Argos Cruise Past Blue Hawks

DICKINSON, N.D. -- The University of Providence women's basketball team cruised past Dickinson State University defeating the Blue Hawks 82-72 Thursday night.

The Argos (12-9) scored the first five points of the game behind a three-pointer from senior McKenna Reggear and a jumper from junior Eliannah Ramirez, and following a basket from the Blue Hawks (6-13), a layup from senior Ainsley Thurber put UP in front 7-2.

Dickinson State quickly answered to bring the game withing two, but the Argos outscored the Blue Hawks 14-6 over the final four minutes of the first quarter behind a pair of threes from junior Brooke Dial and a layup from freshman Layne Rogel to give UP a 27-16 lead heading into the break.

The Argos continued their momentum into the second quarter with a 7-2 run off a triple from Dial and a layup from Reggear to extend the lead to 15, and following baskets from both teams, a layup from freshman Madi Reibel put UP ahead 50-35 at halftime.

UP started the scoring in the third quarter with a layup from Thurber and following a three-pointer from the Blue Hawks, a layup from Ramirez increased the Argo edge to 16.

Both sides traded baskets the rest of the quarter with a layup from Dial keeping the Argos ahead 61-47 heading into the fourth.

The Blue Hawks outscored the Argos 11-3 over the first four minutes of the fourth quarter but a layup from Dial and a pair of baskets from Thurber put UP in front 70-58.

Dickinson State pressured down the stretch to cut the lead to nine, but a dagger three-pointer from freshman Reibel secured the Argos 82-72 victory over the Blue Hawks.

Junior Brooke Dial led the way for the Argos with 29 points while junior Eliannah Ramirez and senior Ainsley Thurber added 18 and 14, respectively.

The Argos will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 30 when they head to Bismarck, N.D. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (MST) versus Bismarck State College.
