MARSHALL, Mo. -- The University of Providence men's wrestling program competed at the Missouri Valley Invitational throughout the day on Friday.
The highlight of the day came from #16
Irish Furthmyre who went 4-0 on Friday defeating Izac Turner 15-0, Bode Wilson 4-2, Justin Whitney 18-1, before beating #18 Brandon Bollinger 8-2 in the quarterfinals. Furthmyre will wrestle #12 Josey Jernegan in the semifinals tomorrow.

Boden Banta and
Anthony Nava also advanced to Saturday with Johnson and Banta finishing Friday 3-1 and Nava ending at 4-1.
Johnson defeated Preston Haines 15-1, pinned Aluma Enwa in 1:08, and pinned Luis Acevado in 4:53 before falling in the quarterfinals. Johnson will wrestle Kane Bryson tomorrow in route to the third-place match. Â
Banta defeated Jackosn Eylar 7-2, Sam Gosnell 10-2, and Trevor Hisey 4-3 on the backside. Banta will wrestle Patrick Jones tomorrow in route to the third-place match. Â
Nava pinned Connor Bleymeyer in 2:01, defeated Steven Elwell 7-2, and Jonathan Argueta 4-1 but fell to #6 Nicolas Rodriguez. Nava will wrestle the #1 seed Dmarian Lopez tomorrow in route to the third-place match. Â
The Argos will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 24 for day two of the Missouri Valley Invitational. Wrestlers will begin at 9:00 a.m. (MST) in Marshall, Mo.
