GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball team overpowered Mayville State defeating the Comets 78-52 Saturday night.
The Argos (15-9) scored the first four points of the game off a pair of layups from senior
Ainsley Thurber and following a basket from the Comets (1-21), a layup from junior
Eliannah Ramirez put UP in front 6-2.
The Comets added a bucket, but the Argos responded with an 11-0 run behind layups from freshman
Layne Rogel and junior
Brooke Dial to give the Argos a 17-4 lead.
Mayville State answered with an 8-2 stretch but a jumper from senior
McKenna Reggear increased the Argo lead to 21-12 heading into the break.
Both teams traded baskets to begin the second quarter until ten-straight behind three-pointers from Reggear and freshman
Bella Triemstra extended the lead to 41-21.
Each side went back and forth the rest of the half with a triple from Rogel giving the Argos a 44-27 edge heading into the break.
The Argos opened the second half with a 12-1 run behind layups from Thurber, Ramirez and a triple from senior
Camryn Cartwright to push the lead to 28.
Mayville State added a pair of baskets to trim into the Argo lead, but UP cruised the rest of the way with a three-pointer from Reggear securing the Argos 78-52 victory over the Comets.

Ainsley Thurber with 16 points, junior
Brooke Dial with 15, junior
Eliannah Ramirez added 12, and senior
McKenna Reggear scored 11.
The Argos will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 13 when they head to Helena, Mont. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. versus Carroll College.
