Argos Split with Bellevue in Frontier Conference Matchup

GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence softball program split with Bellevue University defeating the Bruins 5-2 and falling 12-7 on Friday.
 
In game one the Argos (18-19) scored the first run of the contest when junior Erin Bishop singled to center field to score junior Kasidy Yeoman.
 
The Bruins (18-17) quickly answered in the top of the second to tie the game at one, but in the bottom half freshman Mia Monroe singled to center field to score junior Aspen Dawson and freshman Aleana Aionaaka put the ball in play to score junior Ella Galloway to give UP a 3-1 edge.
 
The Argos continued their momentum into the bottom of the fourth when junior Tehneson Ehnes tripled to right to score Yeoman and then UP pulled off a double steal to push Ehnes across home to put UP in front 5-1.
 
The Bruins hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth, but junior Ashley Mitchell threw all seven innings only allowing six base runners as UP took game one 5-2.
 
In game two the Bruins scored the first run in the top of the first but in the bottom half Ehnes hit a SAC fly to score Aionaaka to tie the game at one.
 
The Argos did not go away in the bottom of the second when Galloway singled to center to score sophomore Madison Moultray and Aionaaka doubled to left field to score sophomore Eliazar Southard and Galloway to give UP a 4-1 edge.
 
UP continued to score in the second with a RBI infield single from Yeoman, Ehnes second triple of the day, and E. Bishop singled to center to push Ehnes across to put UP ahead 7-1.
 
The Bruins slowly chipped away, adding four runs in the third, one in the sixth, and six in the seventh, and despite UP putting a few baserunners on, the Argos fell to Bellevue in game two 12-7.

The Argos will be back in action Saturday, April 11 for another double-header versus Bellevue University. UP will face the Bruins at 11:00 a.m. (MST) and 1:00 p.m. (MST) in Great Falls, Mont.
