OAHU, Hawaii – The University of Providence women's volleyball program defeated Indiana Tech 3-1 in the season opener at the Paradise Volleyball Classic Friday afternoon.
In the first set of the season the Warriors (0-1) took the first lead of the game getting out to a 5-2 edge, but the Argos (1-0) answered with a 10-2 run behind a pair of kills from senior
Cabry Badley and freshman
Brooklyn Hillman to put UP in front 13-8. The Argos slowly pushed the lead out to six, and despite a late flurry from Indiana Tech, kills from Badley and senior
Martyna Fiedler secured the first set for UP 25-21.
In set two neither side could take a lead by more than two until three in a row from the Warriors put Indiana Tech ahead 19-16. The Argos brought the set within two behind a kill from junior
Kendall Picolet, but the Warriors scored five of the last six points to take the second set 25-19.
Both sides went back-and-forth to begin the third set until an 8-2 run from the Warriors put Indiana Tech in front 11-8. The Argos slowly cut into the lead bringing the set to a tie at 21 behind kills from Badley and junior
Addison Hinckley, and despite the Warriors taking a 23-22 lead, UP scored the final three points of the set with a block from sophomore
Kya Stanley and Hinckley to secure the third for UP 25-23.
In the fourth set both teams traded runs until eight straight from the Argos off kills from Hillman and Badley put UP ahead 18-13. UP rolled the rest of the way scoring the final seven points of the set with an ace from senior
Isabelle Cahall securing the fourth 25-15, and the match 3-1.
Brooklyn Hillman,
Cabry Badley, and
Addison Hinckley led the way for the Argos tallying 13, 11, and 10 kills while sophomore
Araleigh Arnold tallied 27 assists.
The Argos will be back in action later tonight at 11:00 p.m. (MST) when they face #12 Oklahoma Wesleyan at the Paradise Volleyball Classic in Oahu, Hawaii.
