OAHU, Hawaii – The University of Providence women's volleyball program swept #12 Oklahoma Wesleyan at the Paradise Volleyball Classic Friday night.
In the first set of the contest the Eagles (1-1) used a 7-2 run to take a four-point lead, but the Argos (2-0) would not go away staying within two points throughout until UP ended the set on a 6-0 run behind a pair of aces from freshman
Bree MacDonald to secure the first set for the Argos 25-22.
In set two, Oklahoma Wesleyan jumped out to an early 10-6 lead but an 8-4 stretch from the Argos behind kills from junior
Addison Hinckley and MacDonald put UP in front 14-13. The Argos continued their momentum pushing the lead out to four off kills from sophomore
Kya Stanley and senior
Martyna Fiedler, and despite the Eagles bringing the set within two, UP scored four of the last five points to secure the second 25-20.
In the third set the Argos got out to an early 8-2 lead off a pair of kills and an ace from senior
Cabry Badley, and despite the Eagles keeping the match within four early, the Argos rolled down the stretch scoring five of the last six points with a kill from Hinckley securing the third for UP 25-16, and the match 3-0.
Cabry Badley led the way for the Argos with 12 kills and six blocks while
Addison Hinckley and
Bree MacDonald added six kills apiece.
The Argos will be back in action today, Aug. 15 when they face Doane at 5:30 p.m. (MST) to wrap up the Paradise Volleyball Classic in Oahu, Hawaii.
