GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence men's soccer
program fell to Dordt University 2-1 Saturday afternoon.
The Defenders (1-0-1) had the first chance of the game three minutes in but were unable to capitalize while the Argos (0-1) answered with a chance of their own but senior
Geovanni Lugo could not get the shot on target.
Moments later Dordt sent the ball ahead and Ike D'Silva found the back of the net to put the Defenders ahead 1-0 in the 16
th minute.
Both sides went back and forth until the Argos threatened with a shot from senior
Elian Martinez that went off the cross bar, but his rebound touch found freshman
Dane Hager who beat the goalkeeper to tie the game at one in the 24
th minute.
Dordt added a goal in the 34
th minute to take a 2-1 lead, and neither side threatened the rest of the half as UP went into the break trailing 2-1.
The Defenders controlled the second half for the first 30 minutes but in the final 15 Lugo and junior
Thomas Roman had opportunities in the box but were unable to find the equalizer as UP fell to Dordt in the home opener 2-1.
The Argos will be back in action Friday, Aug. 28 when they head to Helena, Mont. UP will face Carroll College at 3:00 p.m. in Nelson Stadium.
