HELENA, Mont. -- The University of Providence women's soccer
program fell to Whitworth University 2-0 Saturday afternoon.
The Argos had the first opportunity of the match in the first three minutes when junior
Holly St. Germain had a look at the goal, but her shot was saved by the goalkeeper.
Whitworth took control over the next twenty minutes, getting three shots off until they broke through in the 23
rd when a shot went off the post and ricocheted off a defender and into the back of the net.
The Argos were able to get another chance in the 30
th minute but sophomore
Anisia Ramirez's shot went wide left.
Neither side threatened the rest of the half as the Argos went into the break trailing 1-0.
The Pirates added a goal in the 51
st minute to extend their lead to two, and despite shots from freshman
Bella Demaras and St. Germain, the Argos could not cut into the lead as UP fell to Whitworth 2-0.
The Argos will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 17 when they head to Salem, Ore. for the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener versus Corban University. The first touch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (MST) at the Outdoor Athletic Complex.
