Argos Fall to Blue Hawks in Five Set Thriller

DICKINSON, N.D. – The University of Providence women's volleyball program fell to Dickinson State 3-2 Saturday afternoon.  

In the first set the Blue Hawks (4-10) jumped out to a 6-2 lead but the Argos (10-4) stormed back with a pair of kills from senior Cabry Badley to tie the set at seven. Both teams traded points until four straight from the Argos behind a kill from Badley put UP in front 19-15. The Blue Hawks answered to tie the set at 19, but following ties at 22, and 24, the Argos scored the final two points of the set with a block from juniors Kendall Picolet and Zey Balci securing the first for UP 26-24.

In set two both teams went back-and-forth with neither side gaining a lead by more than two until a 3-1 stretch from the Blue Hawks gave Dickinson State a 10-7 lead. Each side traded points the rest of the way with ties at 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25, but the Argos scored the final two points of the set behind a kill from Badley to secure the second 27-25.

In the third set the Blue Hawks got out to an early 5-1 lead but the Argos answered with an ace from senior Isabelle Cahall and a kill from Badley to tie the set at six. Both teams traded points until three straight from Dickinson State put the Blue Hawks in front 17-14. Dickinson State maintained that margin the rest of the way as the Blue Hawks took the third set 25-18.

In set four Dickinson State doubled up the Argos early, getting out to a 10-5 lead but the Argos slowly cut into the advantage with a pair of kills from senior Martyna Fiedler to tie the set at 20. Following ties at 21, 22, 23, and 24, the Blue Hawks scored the final two points of the set to take the fourth 26-24.

In the deciding set the Blue Hawks stayed hot getting out to a 10-5 advantage, and despite kills from freshman Bree MacDonald and Badley, UP fell in the fifth 15-12, and the match 3-2.

Five Argos set new career highs with Cabry Badley and Martyna Fiedler leading the way with 20 and 18 kills, Araleigh Arnold tallied 50 assists, and Kyra Saiers added 31 digs while Heather Barbee had 22. 

The Argos will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 25 when they head to Butte, Mont. for a matchup against #24 Montana Tech.
