GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's hockey program defeated MSU-Denver 7-3 in the season opener Thursday night.
The Argos (1-0) scored the first goal of the game four minutes in when a puck rattled around the offensive zone to junior
Kage Yellowfly whose shot ricocheted off a defender and went over the goalie's head to put UP ahead 1-0.
The Roadrunners (1-2) answered a few minutes later to tie the game at one, but midway through the period senior
Chavez Constant found junior
Darnell Glasgo ahead of the defense and he buried his one-on-one opportunity to give UP a 2-1 lead.
The Argos continued their momentum, adding another goal a minute later when on the power-play Constant sent a pass through the crease to senior
Adam Husli and he buried his wrist shot to put UP in front 3-1.
MSU-Denver opened the scoring in the second period, adding a goal six minutes in, and despite constant pressure from the Argos, UP could not add onto their lead as they went into the break leading 3-2.
The Argos came out firing in the third period scoring a minute in when Husli forced a Roadrunner turnover in the offensive zone and found freshman
Devante Pratt-Fry whose one-timer beat the goalie to put UP ahead 4-2.
UP did not slow down scoring a few minutes later when senior
Kaleb West drove the net where a defender tipped the puck to senior
AJ Belanger who chipped it past the goalkeeper to extend the Argos lead to three.
The Argos controlled the game down the stretch with Constant and junior
