HELENA, Mont. – The University of Providence women's volleyball program fell to Carroll College 3-1 in the Frontier Conference opener Friday night.
In the first set both teams went back-and-forth with neither side gaining a lead by more than three until a 5-2 stretch behind a kill from senior

Marli Lopeman put the Argos (6-2) ahead 16-13. UP maintained that margin the rest of the set with kills from senior

In set two the Fighting Saints (7-2) scored five of the first seven points, but the Argos slowly clawed back off kills from Fiedler and Hillman to tie the set at 10. Both sides traded points with ties at 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18 until Carroll College pulled away down the stretch, taking the second set 25-21.
In the third set the Fighting Saints jumped out to a 14-8 lead, but the Argos came storming back behind kills from Hillman and sophomore
Kya Stanley to bring the set within one. Carroll slowly pushed their lead out to five, and despite a late kill from Stanley, the Fighting Saints took the third set 25-20.
In set four the Fighting Saints got out to an early 10-5 lead, but the Argos slowly cut into the advantage until a 6-2 run behind a pair of kills from Stanley tied the set at 17. Both teams went back-and-forth with ties at 18, 19, and 20 but Carroll scored two of the last three points of the set as the Argos fell in set four 25-23, and the match 3-1.
Cabry Badley and
Brooklyn Hillman led the way with 13 and 11 kills while
Bree MacDonald and
Heather Barbee tallied 13 digs apiece.
The Argos will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 5 when they head to Billings, Mont. for a matchup with Rocky Mountain College at 3:00 p.m. Â
