Men's Soccer Wins 9-1, Moves On to CCC Playoffs

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Argo men's soccer finished their regular season with another momentum building performance, this time defeating Walla Walla College 9-1.

Despite finishing with a resounding win, UGF didn't score the games first goal. That honor went to the Wolves' Aaron Martinez who put a shot past Argo keeper Henrik Sohn in the sixth minute.

The WWC lead didn't last long, however, with the Argo's leading scorer, Luis Torres, taking a pass from senior Renan Zampieri thirty second later and scoring to even that game at one.

The score stayed at a draw for the next ten minutes and then it was Zampieri's turn to score. The midfielder scored his first of two goals in the game in the 17th minute. His second would come in the 36th to tie him for a game high of two goals. He also led the Argos with three assists.

After Zampieri's first, the Argos took over the game, scoring four more times before the end of the half. The team got a bit more defensive in the final 45 minutes but still scored three more times.

Zampieri tied with junior forward Ian Ooko with two goals apiece.

The win caps off a 12-5 (10-3) regular season in the program's first year under coach Joseph Yeisley. The Argos finish third in the Cascade Collegiate Conference rankings and will play Warner Pacific College, a team they defeated 1-0 in overtime in the regular season, on November 11 at 11 a.m. in Springfield Oregon in the first round of the CCC playoffs.
