First Dual in Lady Argo Wrestling History Ends in 28-13 Loss

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The first dual in the history of the newly formed University of Providence women's wrestling program was an odd one, with neither team able field a full squad. The Lady Argos only had wrestlers for six of the 10 weight classes in a 28-13 loss to Eastern Oregon University.

Neither team had a wrestler in the 101 lb. weight class and the Lady Argos forfeited at 109 and 123, while EOU forfeited at 136. That gave the Mountaineers a 5 point advantage without anyone actually wrestling anyone else.

Of the six matches that actually happened, the Lady Argos won two. The biggest win was junior Tatum Sparks, an All-American in 2016-17. Sparks got the first individual victory and first pin in a dual in program history, with a win by Fall over EOU's Madison Bozovich at 170.

That was the second to last dual of the night. The last was the heavyweight class which featured UP freshman Cassidy Sigda. The smiley Canadian won her first dual match of her collegiate career with a 4-0 decision over Jacey Lindner.

Freshman Maria Enriquez lost a heartbreaker at 143. She and EOU's Renay Monohan wrestled a slow, low scoring match that went scoreless in the first period. Enriquez scored first with an escape in the second period. Bozovich got an escape of her own in the third period and the scored stayed at 1-1 from there.

With riding time equal Monohan got the minor decision win by earning the tiebreak by way of having scored the last point in regulation.

Next  up for the Lady Argos will be another first, the first home event in program history with a dual against Warner Pacific University on November 17.
