Lyons-Lopez Ranks No. 1 and Argos Move to No. 9 in NAIA Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Adrian Lyons-Lopez takes the No. 1 spot at 165 pounds, Matt Hopkins and Justin Harbison moved up in the rankings, and the Argos moved to No. 9 in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll.

The Argos went 4-3 in duals during January, with three of the victories coming as 30 points or more victories over Cascade Collegiate Conference opponents.

Lyons-Lopez had a dominant few weeks, competing in six of the Argos duals and the Clackamas Open and carrying an unbeaten record over that timeframe to claim the top spot in his weight class. Lyons-Lopez garnered six pins, two tech falls, a major decision, and a pair of decisions, with the closest match in January coming in a 7-5 victory over a NCAA Division I opponent from Arizona State to claim the 165-pound title at the Clackamas Open.

Matt Hopkins also had a great month, moving up a spot from No. 4 to No. 3 at 285 pounds. Hopkins went 4-1 in duals for the Argos while also placing fourth during the Clackamas Open. Hopkins tallied four pins and two decision victories. After falling to a Warner Pacific, Hopkins pinned his opponent in the consolation semifinals to place himself in the third-place match before dropping the match due to medical forfeit.

Justin Harbison continued his way up the rankings as he also improved by a spot from No. 13 to No. 12 in the heavyweight class. Harbison fell in an extremely tight 4-3 decision to No. 7 Life University's Jimsher Sidhu.

Casey Dobson remained at the No. 5 spot in the 157-pound weight class. Dobson's only defeats came to the No. 1 ranked Nosomy Pozo of Life University by a 12-5 decision and against NCAA Division II Mason Boutain of San Francisco State in the championship match of the Clackamas Open by a 5-3 decision.

John Hensley moved down two sports from No. 5 to No. 7 at 197 pounds. He claimed a 6-1 record over the past month, while also claiming a first-place finish at the Clackamas Open.

Shonn Roberts dropped four spots to No. 10 in the poll. Roberts claimed eight pin victories and his only loss came to No. 8 Marian University's No. 15 ranked Bailey Moore during the NWCA NAIA National Duals by an 8-4 decision.
