Great Falls, Mont. – The University of Providence men's wrestling team will hold an intra-squad scrimmage Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. in the McLaughlin Center. The event is free and open to the public. The scrimmage will features 11 individual matchups, highlighted by a Blue and a Green team.
"The purpose of the intra-squad is to get our feet wet," interim head coach
Steve Komac said. "It gives us a match before we actually go compete. No matter how much training we do in practice and in the wrestling room, competing out in the gym feels differently. Intensity, nerves, everything that goes into competing somewhere, it changes things a bit so everything is just about preparing us for a real match."
The Argo's season will officially begin on November 2
nd in Laramie, Wyo. for the Cowboy Open. Komac hasn't determined a starting lineup yet, and is hoping the scrimmage will help make some decisions.
"We're certainly looking at individuals for starters," he said. "By no means will the results of intra-squad determine the full starting lineup. Things will change throughout the season for sure. A 6 month wrestling season is a long time. It's a lot of time for growth. We know that kids will grow throughout the season and some kids will pass up other kids. We're looking for some aggressiveness. We're looking to see if the things we're working on in practice are coming out while we compete. And we're going to test our cardio systems to find out what kind of shape we're in."
"The kids have been working really hard so far. We're really pleased with the way the preseason is going. Coaches, wrestlers, we're all a little itchy to get out and compete. We're really looking forward to tomorrow night and for people to come get a look at our team."
