Big Sky Standings
GREAT FALLS, Mont. – 2019 marks the fourth straight year that the University of Providence Rodeo team will host the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association's (NIRA) Big Sky Regional Finals at the Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls, Montana on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4.
The rodeo will close out the 2019-20 NIRA regular season as the cowboys and cowgirls will look to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyoming on June 9-15. The Big Sky Region Finals will kick off with the slack portion beginning at 9 a.m. Friday morning, followed by 7 p.m. performances on Friday and Saturday evening.
In the Big Sky Standings, the Argo women's team ranks sixth in the region, while the men hold eighth.
For cowboys and cowgirls to qualify for the 2019 CNFR, they must place within the top three in the region for their event. A maximum of 180 total points is able to be earned during the regional finals, which is made up of a combination of 60 points from each the long round, short round, and the individual's rodeo average.
For the Argo women's team,
Stephanie Rollins leads the team as she currently sits in ninth place in the region in breakaway roping with 215 points. 166 points separates Rollins from securing a spot in the rodeo finals in third place.
On the men's side,
Brody Shaffer paces the team at sixth in the Big Sky region for bareback riding with a total of 22 points. Miles Community College's Dalton May is just in front of Shaffer at fifth with 88 points, while MSU-Northern's Liam Marshall ranks fourth in the region with 284 points.
Friday's slack will be free entry for all patrons, while the 7 p.m. performance rounds on both Friday and Saturday will require a ticket both nights. Adult tickets are $15, kids ages 10-17 and University of Providence students with a valid student ID are $10, and kids 9-under will be $3. Tickets are available at the Four Seasons Arena box office.
The Big Sky Rodeo Finals performances on both Friday and Saturday will be aired on the Cowboy Channel. The Cowboy Channel can be found on Spectrum channels 112 and 515 for high definition, as well as through DIRECTV channel 603.
