GREAT FALLS, Mont. – University of Providence senior
Peyton Jones became the first Argo in Track & Field program history to be named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team for the 2018-19 academic year, selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The distinction recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined efforts athletically and academically. Jones is one of 10 student-athletes selected for the NAIA District 4 team. The Martinsdale, Montana, native was also one of only three Frontier Conference student-athletes to earn the distinction.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, have a 3.30 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's meets.
Jones graduated from the University of Providence in May following a stellar Argo career. He is coming off a weekend in which he made his third-straight appearance at the NAIA outdoor nationals, earning the University of Providence's third-best finish in the men's marathon in program history, finishing 17
th in the national field. Jones also qualified for his first-ever cross country national championship during his senior season in 2018.
In the classroom, Jones graduated with a degree in criminal justice and a phenomenal 3.97 GPA.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, with first-team and second-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in June.
