GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Argo Track and Field inked another big-time throwing talent in Imhotep Pryor, announced by assistant coach
Alan Cress on Thursday.
"I am very excited to have Imhotep join my throws team here at the University of Providence," expressed coach Cress. "His size, strength and athletic ability will make him a standout in the indoor weight throw and outdoor hammer throw."
Pryor, a native of Long Beach, California, comes to the Argos from Millikan High School. He competed as a two-sport athlete in both track and field and football as a Ram. Pryor secured the Moore League Championship in discus as a sophomore, before securing the shot put and discus championship titles his senior season. He also won at a junior Olympic regional meet to become a USA Track and Field Junior Olympian as a junior. On the football field, Pryor was recognized as an All-Moore League Defensive Lineman during his senior season as a Ram.
Outside of his athletics in high school, Pryor has also involved with the Imani Speed City Track Club in Compton, California since 2009. He competed in various events before eventually focusing on shot put and discus as his main events.
He was named to the honor roll all four years of his high school career. Pryor earned the MBA Taking Care of Business award each year at Millikan, in addition to being recognized with the Most Outstanding Student award in social studies in 2017.
"He is already an accomplished discus thrower and will have no trouble in continuing to excel with the heavier collegiate implement," said coach Cress. "Imhotep is a great fit for our business program and the academic excellence we strive for at UP, as he has proven himself by being an honor roll student all four years of high school."
