CORVALLIS, Ore. – Seven members of the University of Providence men's wrestling team were named to the Cascade Collegiate Conference U.S. Bank Academic All-Conference team Wednesday morning.
Tony Bergerson,
Casey Dobson,
Justin Gibson,
Josh Johnson,
Randy Keesler,
Josh Pepos and
Alex Quick were all honored with the recognition. To qualify for Academic All-Conference, a student-athlete must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and be at least a sophomore in standing.
"To have seven kids named Academic All-Conference makes us very proud," interim head coach
Steve Komac said. "To have student-athletes with academic goals and the discipline to stay on top of their studies while spending hours a day in the weight room and practice room says a lot about their character."
The seven wrestlers honored is the most by a men's wrestling program in the CCC. Montana State – Northern had the next highest with six.
"I'm just really proud of the program," Komac said. "We want kids that are successful on and off the mats and this success just embodies that."
The men's wrestling team will next hit the mats at the Tyler Plummer Open in Dickinson, North Dakota on Jan. 25.
