CORVALLIS, Ore. –
Alina Kinsey and
Angelica Sletten of the University of Providence women's wrestling were both announced to the U.S. Bank Cascade Collegiate Conference Academic All-Conference team Wednesday morning.
"I am very proud of them," head coach
Carlene Sluberski said. "They're both very hard workers in the wrestling room and that translates over into the classroom as well. They buckled down and are here for business."
To be recognized to the Academic All-Conference team in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, student-athletes must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and have at least a sophomore standing in school.
Sluberski hopes the team emulates the hard work demonstrated by the duo.
"It's a really important to me that we're not all about wrestling in this program," she said. "Your grades, your school, how you are excelling socially are all important to me. We're just beginning to shift our culture so that people know that this is what we're about. These are the kind of kids who we want at our school and in our program."
The women's wrestling team will next hit the mats in a dual against Eastern Oregon on Feb. 1 in La Grande, Ore.
