SPEARFISH, S.D. – Two Argos from the University of Providence track and field team broke school records Saturday at the Myrle Hanson Open at Black Hills State University. 

Austin Forson broke the school record in men's weight throw with a throw of 15.61 meters and Zebediah Boos broke the school record in men's shot put with a throw of 14.06 meters.

"I'm really proud of those two," assistant coach Alan Cress said. "As a senior, Zeb has been after that shot put record for four years and now he's finally got it. And for Austin to come in and break that record as young kid is huge. I can't even begin to think of the possibilities of where he'll be when his time as an Argo is done."

The Argos had a good day all-around in a competition against mainly NCAA Division II opponents. Forson's record-breaking weighted throw was good enough for third overall, while Boos finished 9^th with 13.86 meters.

On the women's weighted throw, Jillian Sanchez placed 4^th at 15.4 meters, Allyson Conner finished 6^th with 14.4 meters and Emily Oldham placed 17^th with 10.43 meters. Conner's throw was a personal record and she maintains fifth all-time in school history.

The record-breaking throw in men's shot put from Boos was good enough for 4^th at the open. On the women's side, Jillian Sanchez placed 7^th with 11.29 meters.

"Overall we did really well," Cress said. "There were some nice improvements on the season. With three weeks left and two more meets, today's results put a lot of our kids in a good position for some real improvements as we look forward to the championships. They set themselves to be in a good position."

The Argos will travel to Bozeman next weekend for an indoor meet on Feb. 7.
