GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence track and field team will travel to Spearfish, South Dakota for the final meet of the indoor season.
The meet is the last chance for several members of the team to hit national qualifying marks.
"Our focus is on the ones that are close to qualifying and getting them over that edge," throws coach
Alan Cress said. "We want them to take that jump. We're looking for the big throws. This is the last indoor meet. Historically we've always thrown well this time of year and at this facility. We just have to go down and make it happen."
The team has spent the last few weeks focusing on technique. Cress has pulled each student-athlete into his office to study the film of their throws to find small improvements that will help them reach their mark.
"The past two weeks we've sort of shifted focus from the hard work side to the mental side a little bit," Cress said. "We tell them they've done all the work. They just need to be confident and to look for nothing less than that mark they need. They need to go for the big throw and you might surprise yourself and hit their mark. We're ready, now they have to go do this. Mental preparation, go get it done."
