Argos Plan To Keep Winning Streak Alive in Helena

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball team will look to build off two big wins last weekend as they prepare for the final two games of the regular season.

On Thursday, the Argos (17-11, 8-8) will travel to Helena to face #18 Carroll (19-9, 11-5) at 5:30 p.m. The squad will return to Great Falls on Saturday to take on Montana State-Northern (15-13, 4-12) at 5:30 p.m.

The team had a big weekend at home last weekend, defeating #19 Montana Western 70-41 and #24 Rocky Mountain 85-65 in back to back nights.

"We knew we were a good team," head coach Bill Himmelberg said. "It was just a matter of putting it all together and continuing to play well. Last weekend was just a big confidence boost. We played well at home and were able to control the game from tip to finish. We saw what we can be. Both nights we came out and did that."

Kenedy Cartwright led the team in scoring both nights and on Monday was recognized as the Frontier Conference Player of the Week. She is the 4th member of the Argos team to receive the award this season.

Himmelberg will need another good performance from Cartwright and the Argos. The squad is 0-2 against the Fighting Saints so far this season, though both games have been single-digit losses.

"We're going to have to control them on the boards," Himmelberg said. "They rebound really well and are very physical. We also are going to have to make sure that we defend for the full 30 seconds. The longer they can run their stuff, the harder it is to defend them. We need to slow them up a little bit, knock them off their pace, and then control the boards."

The Argos will take on the Skylights on Saturday. Though the Argos have beaten them twice, Himmelberg knows they won't back down at all.

"They just fight and fight and fight," he said. "We're going to have to make shots and make sure we execute. They are really good at controlling the tempo that we want to play at and make sure we take care of the basketball and don't turn it over. The possessions in that game are really going to matter."

Saturday night will also serve as senior night for the two seniors on the team – Bailey Cartwright and Jenna Randich. Cartwright transferred from Concordia University Portland before the season, while Randich has spent all four years as an Argo.

"Both have been huge parts of our program," Himmelberg said. "They're big for our school and our program. Jenna has been a four-year starter for us. She came in and was an impact player for us right away. She's just a big part of building this program and getting us consistent national recognition. Bailey helped us take it to a whole different level. She's came in and provided something that we haven't had. She brings a lot of athleticism, experience and some maturity that we needed on this team. It was great that she was able to play with her sister and just bring that energy and leadership that we needed from a senior.
