MINOT, N. D. – The University of Providence softball team dropped it's first two games of the Minot State Dome Tournament on Saturday.
In the first game of the day, the Argos fell to Minot State, an NCAA Division II school, 14-2. The Beavers scored six runs in the second inning, and the Argos could never recover.
Peyton Elliot and
Kenzie Gast had two RBIs, while Elliot and
Taylor Mathews scored.
In the evening game, the Argos fell to Mayville State 8-7 in extra innings. Playing under international rules, a runner starts on second starting in the 8
th inning. The Comets scored two runs in the top of 8
th.
Sam Hernandez scored a run in the bottom of the 8
th, but the Argos couldn't get on the board.
Taylor Mathews led the Argos with four hits, while
Skyla Minert had three.
"We fought back but couldn't quite get it done to get the win," head coach
Joey Egan said. "I'm excited to hit the field tomorrow and compete again."
The Argos will play bright and early, taking the field at 7:30 a.m. to face Valley City State. They'll play the final game of the tournament at 11:30 a.m. against Dickinson State.
