Wichita, Kan. – Three wrestlers from the University of Providence men's wrestling team clinched All-American status and will compete in the second day of the NAIA National Championships.
Casey Dobson (157 lbs.),
John Hensley (197 lbs.) and
Justin Harbison (285 lbs.) advanced to the Top 8 in their respective weight classes on Friday. Hensley is wrestling his way through the consolation bracket, while Dobson and Harbison are in the semi-finals.
"I'm really proud of those three for making it to the top eight," head coach
Steve Komac said. "We still have one more day of wrestling left and some goals to accomplish."
Dobson is now a three-time All-American, with a chance to make the finals tomorrow and wrestle for a National Championship.
Justin Harbison secured his first time as am All-American by recording a pin in his quarterfinal match against #3 Shawn Beeson (Graceland).
John Hensley lost a nail biter in the quarterfinals to #3 David Dow (Baker) but bounced back to win his next match over Baker Hadwan (Life) to secure All-American status for the second time in his career.
Shonn Roberts lost a tough quarterfinal match to #10 Denver Stonecheck (Life) before falling to #4 Richard Pocock (Missouri Valley), making him just short of securing All-American status.
"Shonn has been a great leader throughout this entire season and has helped build our team atmosphere in such a positive direction," Komac said. "We will always be thankful for Shonn's efforts."
Jordan Komac was 3-2 on the day losing in the blood round to #5 Isaiah Luellen (Baker).
Hayden Schrull finished 2-2.
"I'm really proud of how Jordan and Hayden performed today against elite competition," Komac said. "They will provide great leadership for the Argos in future years and we are very proud of everything they have done this season."
T.J. Baun finished the day 1-2 beating #5 Kyle Kantola (Indiana Tech) in the second round before losing to #6 Bryce Nickels (Cumberlands).
