GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Three wrestlers from the University of Providence men's wrestling team were ranked in the Top 20 nationally in the latest
NAIA National Poll that was released Thursday.
Jordan Komac remained at 4
th in the 165 lb. weight class,
Hayden Schrull was ranked 14
th in the 184 lb. weight class and
Joel Avila was ranked 19
th at the 125 lb. weight class.
"It shows that their abilities are recognized," head coach
Steve Komac said. "Those are kids that we expect to have a good season and other people recognize that and that's great."
The Argos
kick off their season Thursday night against Montana State-Northern Thursday night, a team who is ranked 20
th in the nation. The Argos, who haven't competed in a dual yet this season, were four spots behind in the team vote, receiving a total of 26 votes. The Lights had a total of 42.
"Northern is a great, traditional program," Komac said. "They have guys ranked all the time. Going head to head allows kids the opportunity to get recognized. Tonight's dual is really important. They've been doing well in their season so far. Any wins against them are a credit towards our kids."
With the Argos participating in four duals this weekend, Komac hopes that good performances could increase the amount of his kids that will get nationally recognized.
"With us kicking off our matches this weekend, other kids will get a chance to show what they're capable of doing and show their own credentials," he said. "Without having competition, having three guys ranked is a good start. Hopefully over the next few weeks some more guys can earn their way into the rankings."
