GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Eight wrestlers from the University of Providence women's wrestling team were ranked in their individual weight classes in the latest
National Poll that the NAIA released on Thursday.
As a team, the Argos were ranked 16
th in the nation. The Argos, who were ranked 9
th in the
Preseason Poll, slid nine spots due to having not played a competition so far this season.
"It sucks that we haven't had any competition yet to validate that initial #9 ranking," head coach
Matt Atwood said. "I don't see us finishing 16
th. I think we're going to do a lot better than that."
Two wrestlers were ranked in the Top 10 in their respective weight classes.
Iverly Navarro was ranked 3
rd in the 101 lb. weight class while
Ira Navarro was ranked 7
th in the 101 lb. weight class.
Six other wrestlers were ranked in the Top 20.
Sabrina Perez was ranked 14
th in the 170 lb. weight class, Lana Hunt was ranked 15
th in the 109 lb. weight class,
Jenna Awana is ranked 15
th in the 143 lb. weight class,
Stasia Hardin is ranked 29
th in the 155 lb. weight class,
Kaelyn Siason is ranked 20
th in the 123 lb. weight class and
Maria Enriquez is ranked 20
th in the 170 lb. weight class.
"Jenna and Ivy have been really good for us so far," Atwood said. "They're our seniors so hopefully they get that return back. Ira and Lana have been doing very well as well. Kaelyn has been a very good addition as a freshman. She's been developing really well and I think she's going to be a really good wrestler for us. Stasia, Sabrina and Maria have all been working really hard too."
The Argos don't have any duals scheduled so far this season, but will compete Friday night in an intra-squad scrimmage. The scrimmage, which will kick off at 7 p.m., will be streamed to the general public.
