GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's soccer team will host their final two home games of the season this week when they take on Multnomah at 1:00 p.m. on Friday and Warner Pacific at the same time on Saturday.
The team had their first full week of practice since the week of Sept. 27 after
missing two weeks of competition due to COVID-19 protocols.
"We've been focusing on getting our fitness levels back up," interim head coach
Michael Rahn said. "We've been getting our motor skills sharp so we're efficient. We're reviewing our tactics and what we want to do and developed a game plan that will hopefully get us some success this weekend."
The Argos (2-8-1, 2-6-1) will start off the weekend with a home game against Multnomah. Both teams are tied in the
Cascade Collegiate Conference standings at seven points, five points behind the 8
th spot needed to secure a spot in the conference tournament. They'll then take on Warner Pacific on Saturday, who is currently ranked third in the conference.
"Multnomah is right with us in the standings," Rahn said. "We both want the points. They're coming in here looking for a win. We need a win and they need a win so it's going to be one of those do or die games. It's going to be for all the marbles."
The team will also honor their eight seniors during senior day with a special presentation 30 minutes before the game on Friday. The team will honor
George Almeida,
Jesus Arellano,
Gudmundur Gudmundsson,
Daniel Huseby,
Cole Koenig,
Evan Scholes,
Kevin Vasquez-Hernandez and
Matthew Wilkinson.
"It's been a tough senior year for them with the coaching change and the difficulty of navigating through the two-week period where we were in COVID-19 protocols," Rahn said. "We started from ground zero of not knowing anybody, having some uncertainty to having some huge wins. We've come together and I think we're in a good spot. Hopefully we'll have some success this weekend."
