Argos Fall to #18 Lights in Conference Road Dual

11/10/2021 10:07:00 PM

HAVRE, Mont. – The University of Providence men's wrestling team fell 25-9 to conference rival Montana State-Northern Wednesday night in Havre, Mont.

The Argos won three matches on the night. Joel Avila (133 lbs.) won by decision over Nick Kunz, Dougie Swanson  (157 lbs.) won via sudden victory over Connor Harris and KC Buday (285 lbs.) defeated Rylan Moldenhauer via decision 3-1.

The loss to the #18 Lights (2-1) comes after a split opening weekend, in which the team defeated Northwest before falling to the #3 junior college team in the country, Western Wyoming. The coaching staff was disappointed by the team's effort during that outing, but saw much improvement in that category tonight.

"The effort was better tonight than it was last weekend," head coach Steve Komac said. "Some of the positioning stuff that we were working on was also better tonight. We got into some good matches. We lost a couple tight matches. We expected some tight ones and those ones just didn't go our way today."

The team will need to respond quickly, as they'll take part in the Grand View Open in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday against some of the top wrestlers in the nation.

"We're going to go back to the room tomorrow and we're going to focus individually on things we saw tonight," Komac said. "We'll address the positives we saw and try to replicate them. We're absolutely heading where we need to be heading. This weekend will be good for us. We need to throw ourselves back into that level of competition and our schedule will do that for us. We're fortunate in that."
