#5 Argos Prepared to Continue Winning Streak at Frontier Conference Tournament

11/11/2021 9:43:00 AM

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The #5 University of Providence women's volleyball team will look to continue their recent winning streak at the Frontier Conference Tournament this weekend. The Argos (23-2, 10-0) received a bye in the first round and will play in the semifinals at 5:00 p.m. on Nov. 12 in Helena, Mont.

The Argos are coming off a victory over Rocky Mountain College last Saturday in the team's regular season finale, capping off an undefeated conference season. The Argos are currently on a 16-game winning streak, with the team last losing to #11 Bellevue over two months ago on Sept. 10.  The win streak has gained the program some national recognition, as the Argos were ranked in the Top 5 in the latest NAIA National Poll.

"That Rocky match and the Carroll match were good for us last week," head coach Arunas Duda. "Our girls were able to finish and close both of those sets. We did some really nice things down the stretch there. I do think we're playing our best volleyball. I think we took a big step forward this weekend. The girls are confident, they're excited. There's just a really good feeling in the gym."

Because the Argos went undefeated during the conference season, the team earned a #1 seed for the Frontier Conference Tournament. The top two seeds of the conference tournament receive a bye. As the top seed, the Argos will play the lowest remaining seed of the first-round games. Should the Argos win that game, they will play in the Frontier Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

"We're all very excited," Duda said. "Now that we have two matches to win to win a conference championship, I think they're very determined. They're confident, but at the same time they know they'll have to play their best. It's kind of nice to have a two-match goal in front of us. The prize is at the end of those two matches right there."

The coaching staff hasn't changed much in the way of preparation. Because the Argos won't know who they play until a couple of hours before, their routine is slightly altered. However, Duda is confident that the team will be able to adjust quickly.

"It's a little tricky to prepare because we won't know who we play until the last minute," he said. "I think we'll be ready to go for whoever it is we're going to matchup against. There's no surprises at this point of the year for any other team. Who can grind it out and who wants it more?"
