GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball team will look to get back on track this week with a pair of home games in the McLaughlin Center. The Argos (2-2) will host Our Lady of the Lake on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and Northwest on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
The team is coming off a pair of losses at the Clearwater River Casino & Lodge Classic in Lewiston, Idaho last weekend. The coaching staff was disappointed in the team's defense in the two games, and has prioritized team defense in the gym this week.
"Defensively we were horrible last weekend," head coach
Steve Keller said. "We haven't even worked on offense this week at all. Offense isn't our problem, it's more being able to guard people. They team has responded really well. I think we'll see an improvement on Friday and Saturday night."
The coaching staff knows they'll need an improved defensive effort against the Saints (4-1). They'll also know they'll have to take care of the ball, as the Saints are expected to full court press throughout the entire game.
"They're athletic and big," Keller said. "They press all over the place so we have to take care of the ball and not turn it over. That's the biggest thing with them. They want you to turn it over to easy buckets for them. We have to take care of the basketball and hope we can guard them."
The team will also be prepared to take on Northwest on Saturday. The Eagles (1-0) have only played one game on the season, so there's not much film on them but historically the Eagles have been well-coached and extremely disciplined.
"We don't know a lot about them," Keller said. "We've played against them the last two years and they've been great competition. Any game for us is going to be tough. We have to be ready to go."
