Argos Look to Extend Winning Streak During Weekend Doubleheader

11/4/2021 11:48:00 AM

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball team will look to extend their current four-game winning streak during their weekend doubleheader. The Argos (4-1) will host Central Baptist at 5:00 p.m. on Friday before facing Corban at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Argos, who are receiving votes in the NAIA National Rankings, are coming off a successful road trip, where the team finished 4-0. The trip showcased the team's depth, with players like Brooklyn Harn, Reed Hazard and Kerstyn Pimperton all scoring in double-figures at least once during the trip.

"We're going to need more than Parker and Emilee if we're going to be successful," head coach Bill Himmelberg said. "They're two All-Americans who can do a lot of things for us, but we're going to need other girls to step up and contribute on any given night. What this road trip showed us is that Brooklyn can step up, Reed can step up, Kerstyn can step up, Maddy can step up. We're in a great situation because we have a lot of different people that can score on any given night."

The trip did highlight some areas that the team needed to improve on. The coaching staff has spent the week in practice working on some of those areas, specifically defensive transition.

"I thought we were a little bit weak at that on our trip," Himmelberg said. "We need to get better at matching up defensively in transition. That's been a point of emphasis for us making sure that we do that. We also need to clean up some offensive execution. There's just some small things that we need to clean up on the offensive end."

The team has also been preparing for both Central Baptist and Corban. The team has relied on some film from earlier in the year, but they'll also rely on their in-person scouting this weekend. The Mustangs (0-1) traveled to Carroll on Wednesday, falling to the Fighting Saints 91-52. By the time the Argos meet the Warriors (0-1) on Saturday, the team will have seen them take on Montana State-Northern as well.

"Central Baptist will be a good team," Himmelberg said. "They're well-coached and they're usually pretty athletic. We got to see them play Carroll last night so we have a little bit better of an idea of what they want to do. Generally they're an athletic team that's well-coached. They'll present some problems for us. But we'll be ready to go."
