Dominant First Half Pushes Argos Past Eagles in Final Game of Cactus Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The University of Providence men's basketball team ended their run at the Cactus Classic in convincing fashion, defeating Embry-Riddle 87-75 Sunday afternoon.

The Argos (9-4) dominated in the first half, going into the break with a 47-19 lead. The Eagles (2-8) got hot in the second half, but never got close to overtaking the Argos.

"We played great the first half," head coach Steve Keller. "We did what we had to do the first half to get the job done. We got a lot of guys in the game in the second which was good to get some experience."

Rashee Stocks led the way with 22 points and seven rebounds. Dawson Fowler also filled out the stat sheet, recording a near triple-double with 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Jake Olsen finished with a double-double, recording 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Caleb Currington added 10 points.

"Dawson played incredible," Keller said. "That was one of his better games for us in his career. Rashee also played pretty well. He had a good tournament for us."

The win marks the end of the Cactus Classic for the squad. The team lost the first game of the tournament to Antelope Valley before responding on Saturday with a win over Benedictine-Mesa. The Argos will next take the court in Billings, Mont. with a neutral site game against Dickinson State.

"We got two wins down here and that's important," Keller said. "We played some quality competition down here and got better. Now we'll enjoy a little time off and be ready to go for Dickinson."
