CORVALLIS, Ore. – After a dominant performance on Saturday, senior
Eli Walston of the University of Providence men's wrestling team was named the
Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Cascade Collegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week.
Walston, currently the
#15 ranked wrestler in the 133 lb. weight class, won three straight matches this weekend. He first defeated Elian Murillo of Simpson University via pin, before taking down Raul Ruiz of Eastern Oregon by a 14-3 decision. He finished the day with another pin, this time on Gustavo Ventura of Simpson University.
"Eli had a great weekend," head coach
Steve Komac said. "He looked fantastic. He had three very strong wins. One thing we're looking for out of Eli is to become more consistent. And last weekend he was very consistent."
Walston, whose
win over last year's National Champion Nick Kunz of Montana State-Northern two weeks ago put him on the national map, has also been a workhorse in the weight room.
"He brings a lot of effort everyday," Komac said. "He's a competitor. He competes for us hard. He brings the same level to practice as he does to competition."
Walston and the Argos will next hit the mats Thursday night against Montana State-Northern.
