GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence softball team fell to the College of Idaho in both games of the doubleheader that were played on Saturday.
The Yotes (15-7, 6-0) defeated the Argos (0-8, 0-6) 8-0 in the first game and 15-0 in the second.
"Despite the score we have a lot of really good moments where we were competitive and in the game," head coach
Joey Egan said. "Unfortunately when we make a mistake it seems like it just snowballs into a bunch of mistakes. We had some bad innings that eliminated a lot of good things that we were doing."
Egan's words rang true in the first game, when both remained scoreless for the first three innings. The Argos played solid defensively, and combined with consistent pitching from
Brie Clifford, held the Yotes in check. However, the Yotes scored eight runs in the top of the fourth inning to break the game open. Neither team scored the remainder of the game.
"That fourth inning was troublesome for us," Egan said. "The wheels came off a bit there."
There were two innings that gave the Argos problems in the second game. The Yotes scored six runs in the second inning and seven in the fifth inning.
"If we can figure out how to nip these runs early, we'll be alright," Egan said. "We have to find a way to put a complete game together. There were some really good moments today and we need to find a way to put more of those moments together."
The Argos will get a chance to do so next week when they take on Bushnell next week in a pair of doubleheaders.
